Lecture:Maryland’s Cinderella: Archaeology of the Belvoir Slave Quarter with JulieSchablitsky
Five years ago, archaeologists discovered the remains of a stone slave quarter just outside of Annapolis. A thorough study of the site revealed thousands of artifacts and allowed the building to be virtually reconstructed. The success of the project also depended on the descendant community, some of whom were directly related to Cinderella, an enslaved woman who ran away from Belvoir to avoid being sold South. This presentation will take the audience through the process of discovery, reveal the results of DNA analysis from personal artifacts, and provide updates on the project.
